At RoboCamp, we use science to improve safety. Covid transmission is airborne. The best ways to minimize airborne transmission are masks, ventilation, and air-filtration. We use all 3.
The lab space, while mostly below ground, has windows on 3 walls where we place box fans to force fresh air into the room at one end and interior air out of the room at the other end. A CO2 monitor placed midway in the room has consistently demonstrated that even with over a dozen people in the room, CO2 concentrations remain at a level indicating that potentially exhaled virus particles do not have a chance to build up.
In addition, we use a Corsi-Rosenthal box strategically located within the room to further filter air within the room. Even if the windows were all closed (they will not be), this device can filter virus particles out of all the air in the room 3+ times per hour.
Finally, all of our robotics experts will be wearing high quality N95 style masks and we will ask any campers with detectable cold symptoms to either abstain from camp or take a rapid test on each day of the camp that they have symptoms and wear a mask to avoid spreading their cold to others.
While campers are not required to wear masks, we highly enourage their use while in the lab. They are not needed during snack breaks which will take place outside.
